The compounds which contain hydrogen and carbon only are called hydrocarbon.
the hyrocarbons which contain either a double bond and a triple bond are called unsaturated hydrocarbons
e.g mathane,ethane etc
there are two classes of hydrocarbons.
- open chain hydrocarbons
- closed chain hydrocarbon
hydrocarbons which contains open chain of carbon atoms are called open chain hydrocarbons or aliphatic hydrocarbons.the open chain hydrocarbons have also two types.
- saturated hydrocarbons (alkanes)
- unsaturated hydrocarbons (akens and alkynes)
the hydrocarbons in which all carbon atoms are bonded by a single bonds are called saturated hydrocarbons or alkanes or parafins e.g mathan, ethane propane etc.
in sturated hydrocarbons all four valencies of carbon are fully satisfied.hence it can not take up any more hydrogen.
2. unsturated hydrocarbons.
